Overview

The JOC Inland Distribution Conference (Inland26) is a three-day event focused on North American transportation and logistics in downtown Chicago, North America’s most important trucking and intermodal freight hub. 

JOC Inland brings together intermodal rail, trucking and drayage segments of both wholly domestic supply chains as well as those connected to international supply chains that start or terminate at North American seaports, airports and border crossings.

Concern over the extent to which AI will replace people is natural, but the story has not yet been written. Various projections have AI: completely wiping out white collar workers, replacing some office work, but retaining decision-making and creative roles; merely augmenting the capacity and scope of the existing workforce; or just not impacting jobs all that much. Which of these paths the freight industry takes is not yet clear.

But one school of thought is that AI, as a tool for automation, will fundamentally change the nature of non-physical work in freight and transportation. In this view, everything from data entry to strategic planning is handed over to systems. Some have described this as people needing to take their hands off the wheel when it comes to AI. In this session, logistics software providers and users will discuss whether that view is likely to occur, or whether the industry is more likely to evolve into a “human in the loop” environment. Whatever happens, the implications are immense.
